Title: Development of an integrated teaching module for end-of-life home care

Abstract

Through a retrospective review of medical records from January 2024 to December 2024, data from a palliative home care facility in Taoyuan City was analyzed. Among the 93 cases included, 10 patients received intravenous infusions at home, 3 used injectable morphine, 10 used buccal tablets for pain relief, 23 took oral morphine, and 15 utilized morphine patches, but 70% encountered difficulties in using morphine drugs or taking care of them at home and needed repeated telephone guidance.

Based on these statistics, the needs of patients and caregivers were identified, leading to the development of the following components:

1. Blog articles for guidance.

2. Video tutorials.

3. Instant messaging platforms.

4. Real-time video instruction.

This care module enables concise health education sessions, allowing family members to revisit video tutorials as needed. The blog addresses common physical, mental, and spiritual issues and uses drop-down menus to help families quickly access relevant information. Instant messaging platforms facilitate real-time communication, while integrated chatbot technology provides quick responses to patients’ or caregivers’ questions.

Audience take away from my presentation:

  • Blog articles for guidance.

By showcasing this care module, we aim to reduce caregivers’ uncertainty in providing care. Through this sharing initiative, we hope to promote diverse health education methods, especially digital health education, to enhance connectivity and immediacy in care delivery.
